About MeHi, I'm Alicia.
The rose blooms where it is planted, in wide open land, under big sky, through hard seasons and soft ones alike.
This work had already written my name into it, long before I recognized it as my own.
I was born on the Colorado prairie, coyotes howling, pink lights glowing in a heart above the bed where I took my first breath. Birth has lived in me ever since.
My background as a Registered Nurse in maternal newborn health informs everything I bring to this work, but in this space, I show up solely as your doula. I have spent years as a public health nurse walking through the doors of first time mothers, witnessing what it means to be seen and what it costs not to be. Before that I worked in the mother and baby unit, where I learned to move slowly, to tend gently, to hold families in the fragile and luminous time just after birth. This work has always been inseparable from justice for me. Tender, continuous, present care should belong to everyone, and I am walking toward full certification and Medicaid certification to make that a reality.
I completed the Beheld Doula Training, an experience that expanded my heart and my craft, and deepened my understanding of what it truly means to hold space for someone during one of the most elemental moments of their life.
My daughter carries the name Rose, given in honor of the matrilineage that made me. I took it too. Prairie Rose Birthwork is theirs as much as it is mine.

MissionThis work is for everyone.
It is not lost on me that doula care has historically been inaccessible to so many. I want to be able to say yes to anyone who needs support, regardless of income or circumstance. That is not just a goal. It is the whole point.
